Meet the Founder

Innovative and goal-oriented, Shilpa is averse to settling for the status quo and is perpetually challenging boundaries. With a background spanning three decades in retail, consulting, and creative enterprises, Shilpa has been living her entrepreneurial dreams for over thirteen years.

She launched Breakaway in 2011, which was an outcome of her passion for travel and her diverse cultural influences. The venture plans and executes bespoke “Beyond the Brochure” experiential journeys around India for solo travelers and independent travelers looking for an immersive and “slow travel” approach to experiencing India.

In 2012 she co-founded Jaypore, an online retail portal for exquisite Indian handmade and high-on-design products, and drove the vision of one of India’s most respected arts and crafts e-commerce brands. She then handed over the baton to a very able team in 2019 and went on to focus her energies on building her dreams for Breakaway

Shilpa’s packed professional life does not deter her from maintaining an essential work-life balance. On her time, she is generally found travelling on leisure, mentoring women entrepreneurs and pursuing her creative interests. She is also, almost always, actively seeking out that next best idea
